A hospital is declared a “friend of the children” when you agree not to accept free samples or cheap breast milk substitutes, feeding bottles or teats, and to implement the “ten steps for breastfeeding”.

Since the launch of this initiative, to date, more than 15,000 hospitals in 128 countries to obtain this recognition, with a consequent increase in the rate of breastfeeding and improving the health status of the child.

DEFINE A PROTOCOL WRITTEN FOR The BREASTFEEDING AND make IT KNOWN TO ALL THE STAFF

PROVIDE ALL THE HEALTH care STAFF in SKILLS TO IMPLEMENT THIS PROTOCOL.

INFORM ALL PREGNANT WOMEN OF THE BENEFITS AND TECHNIQUES OF BREASTFEEDING.

HELP THE MOTHERS’ CAUSE they BEGIN TO BREASTFEED WITHIN an HOUR of BIRTH

SHOW MOTHERS THE BEST WAY TO BREASTFEED

do NOT GIVE newborn INFANTS FOOD OR drink other than BREAST MILK, EXCEPT ON the PRECISE PRESCRIPTION

PLACE THE INFANT IN the SAME ROOM as THE MOTHER, SO THAT you are able to SPEND TOGETHER 24 HOURS ON 24 DURING THE STAY in THE HOSPITAL

ENCOURAGE BREASTFEEDING EVERY time THE BABY SHOWS WANT TO BREASTFEED

NOT to GIVE TEATS OR PACIFIERS

PROMOTE THE CREATION OF SUPPORT GROUPS and THE PRACTICE OF BREASTFEEDING SO THAT MOTHERS CAN EXTEND AFTER DISCHARGE FROM THE HOSPITAL
