> Più the risk of diabetes when one says ” no ” to smoking

Aric (Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities) this is the acronym of the survey perspective, which has involved over 10 thousand people half età that, at the time of recruitment, were not affected by diabetes.

After about nine years of follow-up, 1.254 people are found to be diabetic. In addition, during the first three years of the survey, 380 people have stopped smoking.

After the appropriate corrections for age, race, sex, education, plasma levels of lipids and blood pressure, in individuals previously smokers, those who had just stopped and those who continued to smoke, the incidence of diabetes is found to be significantly più high compared to non-smokers (hazard ratio = 1,22 ; of 1.73 and 1.31, respectively).

Further corrections for changes in body weight and leukocyte count showed an attenuation of the risk of developing the disease diabetic. Finally, long-term analyses have shown that the risk of più the top is observed after 3 years (hr= 1,91), and from 0 to 12 years of age, gradually decreases. (l.)
